Clocked in after midnight
Night Shift Cat
He keeps the city running by refusing to hurry.
Third Floor, 2 A.M.
Every night, Night Shift Cat takes the corner desk before the elevators stop pretending to be busy. He answers no calls, trusts one mug, and watches the blue window until every key has cooled. The headphones are mostly for boundaries. At 4:13, he approves the silence. At dawn, the inbox is tidy and his expression is unchanged.
The Long Watch
The shift follows five dependable stages. None require enthusiasm.
- Clock InHeadphones on before the building settles.
- Window CheckCount lit apartments; judge nobody efficiently.
- Mug PatrolConfirm the coffee remains technically warm.
- Ticker$SHIFT stays beside the keyboard until dawn.
- HandoffLeave one clean inbox and no small talk.
Morning arrives. He does not applaud.
